GMO Cookies: frequently asked questions

What does GMO stand for in weed?

Accounts differ. "Garlic, mushroom, onion" is the popular expansion, but Weedmaps calls it lore, and Leafly says Skunkmasterflex named the strain after news about genetically modified ingredients in a cookie brand and because it grew as if scientists had modified it.1,2,3,4

Is GMO indica or sativa?

An indica-dominant hybrid: AllBud, Barney’s Farm and Zamnesia list 90% indica, and Leafly rates it mostly calming.5,6,7,8

What strain is GMO?

GMO Cookies: a cross of Chemdawg (the Chem D cut) and Girl Scout Cookies (the Forum cut), bred by Mamiko Seeds in Spain and selected by Skunkmasterflex.2,3,8

Are GMO, GMO Cookies and Garlic Cookies the same strain?

Yes. Leafly lists Garlic Cookies and GMO Garlic Cookies as other names for GMO Cookies, and Weedmaps adds GMO, Garlic Mushroom Onion and GMO 41.2,8 On the lab certificates in our data the most common label is plain GMO (1,246 of 2,159 tests).9 Sour Garlic Cookies, from Bloom Seed Co, is listed by Leafly as a separate strain.10

Is GMO weed genetically modified?

No. The breeder’s note on SeedFinder says GMO Cookies is not a genetically modified organism but a cross of Chemdawg D and a GSC Forum cut; the name is a nickname.11

Who created GMO?

Mamiko Seeds of Spain bred the Chem D × GSC cross, and Skunkmasterflex of Skunk House Genetics found and named the keeper; some accounts credit Mamiko alone.2,3,8

How much THC is in GMO?

The median is 26.74% across 2,159 state lab tests; half of all results fall between 23.46% and 29.83%.9 Leafly lists 28%.8

What terpenes are in GMO?

By median, limonene 0.59%, β-myrcene 0.48%, β-caryophyllene 0.44% (percent by weight): the same three terpenes Leafly lists, though Leafly puts caryophyllene first.8,9

Does GMO have CBD?

Almost none: 965 of the 1,340 tests that reported CBD found none, and the highest result was 0.31%.9

What does GMO taste and smell like?

Garlic and fuel, mostly. Leafly describes a diesel aroma and a garlic-forward taste and lists chemical, pepper and pungent flavors; on Weedmaps, 38% of flavor reports say earthy, 32% pungent and 31% diesel.2,8

Does GMO make you sleepy?

It is known as a sleepy strain: sleepy is one of Leafly’s top three effects and Leafly rates it mostly calming, though Weedmaps describes a brighter, uplifted start.2,8

How long does GMO take to flower?

About 8–9 weeks according to Leafly; seed versions range from about 61 days (Mamiko Seeds) to 75–80 days (Barney’s Farm’s GMO).6,8,11

Which strains come from GMO?

Many, among them Skunk House Genetics’ Burger line (Han Solo Burger, Donny Burger, Double Burger and Triple Burger), Garlic Breath, Mule Fuel, Garlic Juice and Kitchen Sink. Leafly’s 2022 feature counted more than 155 GMO crosses on SeedFinder.3,4,12,13,14,15,16,17,18

Is Garlic Breath the same as GMO?

No. Leafly lists Garlic Breath as GMO × Mendo Breath from ThugPug Genetics: a child of GMO, not GMO itself.15
